The National Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. became official in August 1947 at the Los Angeles Conclave of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  In 1980, the Silhouettes were officially recognized as an auxiliary to the Fraternity.  Under the leadership of Dr. Oliver Gumbs, Grand Polemarch, the Silhouettes were granted a seat on the Board of Directors of the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation, Inc. On September 11, 1987, Policy Statement No. 87-12 was entered into the records of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., which recognized the Silhouettes as an affiliate whose purpose is to (1) Serve as an auxiliary to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, (2) Promote the organization of local Silhouette chapters and the interchange of ideas; (3) Coordinate activities of local silhouette chapters; (4) Provide activities of visiting Silhouettes and their families during Kappa Conclave.; and (5) Develop and disseminate policies and procedures for National, Province, and Local chapters. 

The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Silhouettes Huntsville Alumni Chapter was founded in the early 1960s.  The Silhouettes stand as a beacon of service and empowerment within the community. Comprised of the dedicated wives and widows of members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, the Silhouettes embody the principles of upliftment, promotion, and service, as well as upholding the legacy of their national organization while making a tangible impact at the local level.

The Huntsville Silhouettes confront the challenges of uncertain and distracting times head-on, demonstrating resilience and dedication to their mission. Amidst a backdrop of societal turbulence, the Silhouettes remain steadfast in their commitment to community stewardship, continuously seeking out innovative and efficient ways to serve those in need.

One hallmark of the Huntsville Silhouettes' community outreach efforts is their dedication to providing essential support during times of celebration and hardship alike. During Thanksgiving, they extend a helping hand by distributing Kroger gift cards to families, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a warm and fulfilling holiday meal. Similarly, during the festive season of Christmas, the Silhouettes brighten the lives of children by gifting toys and presents, spreading joy and hope throughout the community.

Yet, their service extends far beyond seasonal gestures of goodwill. The Huntsville Silhouettes actively participate in national initiatives, including raising awareness about domestic violence and supporting the March of Dimes, underscoring their commitment to addressing critical societal issues and promoting the welfare of all individuals.
